Louise, No. 228

Since she left chart-topping band girl-band Eternal two years ago, Louise has been Exceptionally lucky. Practically within hours of leaving the group, EMI offered her a solo deal, realising that other labels were bound to be interested in any ex-member of Eternal. This moulded her into a successful chart-topper herself, with songs like 'Naked' and ' Undivided Love' both making the top 10.  Louise's first solo single 'Light Of My Life', was launched in September '95 with a special early morning opening at London Records. A thousand-strong queue stretched right around the block, and any lingering doubts EMI may have had about her commercial potential were immediately dispelled. Louise has never been publicity-shy -- hence the revealing magazine spreads, and the fact that readers of FHM and SKY discerningly voted the starlet "Sexiest Woman In The World".  Despite all this, Louise still finds time to record and tour, and was even nominated for best British Female Artist at last year's Brit Awards. Her debut album, provocatively entitled 'Naked', also reached the Top Ten, and to date has sold over 400,000 copies. Smash Hits and Live and Kicking showered her with awards last year, such as "Top Woman" and "Most Fanciable Female".  Louise became much more involved in her music for the second album 'Woman In Me', contributing to the writing of several of the sixteen tracks. Describing it as "a complete album, very rounded and varied, she also reckoned that it reflected her new found maturity as an artist. Joining her in production duties were Steve Levine, know for his early 80s work with the recently reformed and touring Culture Club, and Simon Climie (Eric Clapton) and Johnny Douglas (George Michael), both of whom produced tracks on the 'Naked' album. Also involved was Nigel Lowis, who produced Eternal's No. single, 'I Wanna Be The Only One'.  Louise finished off 1997 in style, with her most ambitious venture yet -- a 21-date nationwide tour Sponsored by Soft And Gentle shampoo, the month-long jaunt took in venues from the Glasgow Clyde Auditorium to London's Wembley Arena. A success on every level, exclusive Soft And Gentle CD, presumably encouraging fans to turn up squeaky clean tresses. Her popularity seems sure to grow as she raises temperatures this summer with more magazine covers and appearences.
