Life With Louise - BRMB -03 Aug 2000

Louise is lapping it up. Success that is! The gorgeous ex-Eternal girlie has already notched up 14 hit singles (six with Eternal and eight solo) and countless awards in lads mags for Most Fanciable Female and World's Sexiest Woman.

After sensationally quitting top band Eternal, Louise's two solo albums - 'Naked' and 'Arms Around The World' - went platinum. And now it's time for the sassy South London babe to get even funkier. She's back in the charts with a brand new single '2-Faced'. And her third album 'Elbow Beach' - named after the Bermudan paradise where she and footie star hubby Jamie Redknap spent their honeymoon - is out soon.

We hooked up with Louise for a chat about love, career and hair extensions...

Fill us in on your new single.

It's called '2-Faced' and it's basically about everybody in life experiencing somebody who has been a bit two-faced and a bit negative. So it's really about hitting back and basically saying "Get over it!".

Is this about you getting back at somebody?

Not about anyone in particular, no. It's just that in life I have come across people like that and really it's just a little bit of self motivation if anything to say to myself and everybody else "Don't let these people affect you". Life's too short for that,

Your mate Kelle Bryan has said everyone gave you the cold shoulder but she really stuck up for you - how do you feel about that?

Kelle's been my friend since we were at school. We go back from the age of 11 so when you know someone from 11 you're good friends. You should stick up for your mates.

Are you happy that she stuck up for you?

To be honest, with Kelle I wouldn't have expected anything else. I would have been much more shocked if she'd had said "Me and Louise don't get on" or something. We've been friends since we were 11 so she better not say anything horrible about me!

Is married life as Mrs Jamie Redknap ever incompatible with working in the music industry?

To be honest with you my married life is number one priority in my life and my music comes second in my life. It's something I love doing and I'm so lucky I'm doing it. I love my music and feel honoured I have the opportunity to do it. But nothing comes close and nothing is as high priority in my life as my marriage.

Do you find it easy to separate your music career and your marriage?

It's very separate. I always make sure that I'm home. I never go away for too long. Marriage is for the rest of my life, the music industry isn't.

So what if Jamie gets an offer to play in Italy?

Hopefully we'd make it work. He'd never put stipulations in my life and I wouldn't with him. These opportunities don't come along very often. I'd certainly never ask to do anything he didn't want to.

Are you relieved not to have as much media interest - like Posh and Becks?

Our lives would never had been like theirs. One, we made a conscious effort in the early days of our relationship years ago that it would be a very private relationship. And secondly we're not as famous as those guys. The pressure is taken off us. It's always them and it's done us a favour. Jamie is very shy and he would be very uncomfortable in that circumstance.

How do you feel about being godmother to Paul Ince's baby?

It hasn't been born yet so we're a bit premature! But I'm really looking forward to it, I think it's a real honour. I'm gonna be a good godmother.

What would you say is the best part of your job?

I get so many good perks. Look at tonight at the Pepsi Chart Show. What a great way to make a living! I come in, eat crisps and sweets. It's great.

Tell us a secret...

I have hair extensions. Have done for ages.

What would you do if you were invisible for the day?

Shoplift in all the designer shops! I shouldn't have said that. I'd go round Versace and Dolce & Gabana and get my friends and family clothes.

What's your worst habit?

My worst habit is picking food from the fridge. I never sit down and eat one whole meal, I pick. Like a half-eaten pavlova or something.

Do you have a health regime?

I try. But I have good days and bad days like anyone else, like any other woman in the world!

Do you cook?

No. A jacket potato! I'd like to though, I could get into it but it's the time.

Has married life changed your eating habits?

Yes it so has. I used to be one of those people who would go home and be happy with toast and cereal but now if I put toast and cereal on the table Jaime's like - "Yeah, right. Where's me dinner"- joke. Yeah it has, as you think about someone else when it comes to dinnertime.

What makes you cry?

If someone else cries I cry. I saw the 'Sixth Sense' and I cried. It was sad at the end as she'd lost her man.

What's your best summer song?

At the moment Lucy Pearl's, "I Wanna Dance Tonight" because it's just a tune. A wicked tune. I'm a big fan of theirs, the singer used to be in En Vogue and I loved that band. The whole album is fantastic and a bit of inspiration for me I have to say.
